AC, Fan and UPS Electricity Cost Calculator

Calculate how many units and rupees your home appliances use per month. Just add watts, daily running hours and your per-unit rate to see monthly bill for AC, fan, fridge, UPS and more.

Example: A LESCO consumer in Lahore using 1.5 Ton AC.

AC, Fan and UPS Electricity Cost Calculator Pakistan

Many people in Pakistan want to know how much an AC adds to the LESCO bill. In summer, electricity bills in Pakistan increase a lot. The main reason is high-power appliances like ACs, fans, fridges, and UPS systems. Most people don't know how many units (kWh) their AC or fan actually consumes in a month.

My AC, Fan and UPS Electricity Cost Calculator helps you estimate your monthly electricity consumption in kWh units, monthly cost, and yearly cost for any home appliance. It is based on a simple formula. It works quickly, is free for everyone, and keeps your usage details private on your device.

How Much Power Your Appliances Use

This is an appliance electricity cost calculator that helps you guess how much electricity your home appliances use and how much they add to your electricity bill.

In Pakistan, electricity bills are calculated based on kWh units. One unit means one kilowatt-hour (kWh). If you know the wattage of your appliance, how many hours you use it daily, and your per-unit rate, you can easily estimate your bill.

This calculator is useful for:

It helps you plan your electricity usage and control your bill before the bill arrives.

How Does This Electricity Cost Calculator Work?

The calculator uses a very simple and standard electrical formula used worldwide.

Step 1 - Calculate Monthly Units (kWh):
Monthly Units (kWh) = Power in Watts x Hours per Day x Quantity x Days per Month / 1000

I divide by 1000 because 1000 watts = 1 kilowatt.

Step 2 - Calculate Monthly Cost:
Monthly Cost (Rs) = Monthly Units x Rate per Unit (Rs)

Step 3 - Calculate Yearly Cost:
Yearly Cost (Rs) = Monthly Cost x 12

For example, if an appliance uses 100 units in a month and your rate is Rs 35 per unit, your monthly cost is 100 x 35 = Rs 3,500 and yearly cost is Rs 42,000.

The calculation is simple, but doing it manually for multiple appliances is time-consuming, which is why this tool does it for you.

Electricity Bill Example for 1.5 Ton AC

Take a common AC bill example from Lahore.

Suppose you have a 1500 Watt AC (1.5 Ton) and you run it for 8 hours a day for 30 days in a month.

Monthly Units = 1500 x 8 x 1 x 30 / 1000
= 360,000 / 1000 = 360 kWh units per month

Now, if your per-unit rate according to your WAPDA bill is Rs 40 per unit:

Monthly Cost = 360 x 40 = Rs 14,400 per month
Yearly Cost = 14,400 x 12 = Rs 172,800 per year

This means just one AC can add Rs 14,400 to your monthly bill.

Similarly, take a ceiling fan.
A normal ceiling fan is about 100 Watts. If you run 2 fans for 12 hours a day for 30 days: Units = 100 x 12 x 2 x 30 / 1000 = 72 units.
Cost at Rs 40 = 72 x 40 = Rs 2,880 per month.

This shows you how small appliances also add up when used for long hours.

Tips to Reduce AC and Fan Electricity Cost

Follow these practical tips to get a more accurate bill estimate and to save electricity.

1. Inverter ACs Consume Less Than Labeled Watts: The wattage written on an inverter AC is its maximum power. Once your room becomes cool, an inverter AC reduces its power consumption automatically. So if it is labeled 1500W, it may only consume 600W to 800W after the room is cool. Therefore, your actual bill could be 30% to 50% lower than this full-load estimate. This is a major benefit of inverter ACs.

2. Always Check the Appliance Label: Do not guess the wattage. Always check the actual wattage written on the appliance's nameplate or in its manual. A 1 ton AC and 1.5 ton AC have very different wattages. Old fans consume more than new energy-saver fans.

3. Use the Exact Per-Unit Rate from Your Bill: In Pakistan, electricity rates are based on slabs and change every month due to fuel price adjustment. Your per-unit rate can jump significantly if you cross 200 units. For example, the rate for 1-100 units is low, but for 300+ units, it can be more than Rs 50 per unit including taxes. So use the exact per-unit cost shown on your recent bill for a result closer to your bill.

4. Set AC Temperature to 25 to 26 Degrees: Setting your AC to 18 degrees uses much more electricity. If you set it to 25 or 26 degrees, your room will still be comfortable and your inverter AC will quickly reduce its power consumption, saving many units.

Important Points About Units and Tariff

This calculator gives you a planning baseline, not your final bill.

Once the room cools down, inverter ACs pull less than their rated power. Also, your actual electricity bill includes many other charges besides units, such as Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA), Quarterly Tariff Adjustment, Electricity Duty, TV Fee, GST, and other taxes. Because of this, your final bill will be higher than just units x rate.

Also, UPS adds extra cost. A UPS has inverter losses. When it charges your batteries and converts DC to AC, it loses about 10% to 15% of electricity as heat. So a UPS system itself adds 10 to 15% extra units to your bill.

Therefore, treat this tool as a baseline for planning and comparison, not as your exact final bill amount.

Watts Chart

Approximate power use: 1 Ton Inverter AC 700-1200W, 1.5 Ton Inverter 1000-1800W, 1 Ton Non-Inverter 1200-1500W, Fan 75-100W, Iron 1000W. Actual use depends on temperature setting and brand. Use exact watts from your AC sticker for better estimates. The LESCO tariff also changes by slab.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many units does a 1.5 ton AC use per hour?

At full load, a 1.5 ton non-inverter AC uses about 1.5 to 1.8 units per hour. An inverter AC after cooling the room may use only 0.6 to 0.9 units per hour.

Which home appliances cost the most electricity?

In Pakistan, ACs, electric geysers, electric heaters, irons, water motors, and old refrigerators typically consume the most electricity and add the most to your bill.

Does UPS increase electricity bill?

Yes, a UPS adds cost. Due to charging and conversion losses, a UPS system adds around 10% to 15% extra electricity consumption on top of the appliances it runs.

Why is my actual WAPDA bill higher than the calculator result?

This calculator shows units for one appliance only. Your actual bill includes all appliances, plus fuel price adjustment, taxes, and slab rates. Check your full bill or use NEPRA tariff to compare.
