How to Calculate AC and Electricity Bill Cost in Pakistan

Last updated: 15 October 2026 | Reviewed by Habiba, founder of PakCalculators.com

In summer, electricity bill is high due to AC, fan and cooler. You can estimate your bill before it comes.

Formula

Units Consumed (kWh) = (Watts x Hours per day x Days) / 1000

Cost = Units x Per Unit Rate

Different appliances have different watts: 1 Ton AC ∼1200W, 1.5 Ton AC ∼1800W, Ceiling Fan ∼80W, Inverter AC ∼800-1000W.

Pakistani Example

Example: A LESCO consumer in Lahore using 1.5 Ton AC.

Watts = 1800, Hours = 8 daily, Days = 30, LESCO Rate = 35 PKR per unit (non-protected slab).

Units = (1800 x 8 x 30) / 1000 = 432 units

Cost = 432 x 35 = 15,120 PKR for 1 AC only.

How to Use My Electricity Cost Calculator

Enter watts of your AC or fan, daily hours, number of days, and your per unit price from your last bill. Click Calculate Cost. It will show units and estimated cost. Note: Your actual bill depends on slab rates (Protected, Non-Protected), FPA, and taxes. Check your LESCO, IESCO, K-Electric bill for the exact rate.

Power use is approximate. A 1 Ton AC may use around 1200W and a 1.5 Ton AC may use around 1800W depending on brand and model. LESCO rates change by slab and month, for example 35 PKR per unit is just an example for non-protected slabs. Check your latest LESCO bill or tariff page for your actual rate.

Common Mistakes

The first mistake is using one rate for the whole bill. Electricity bills can use slab rates, so the cost per unit may rise as consumption rises. Use the rate from your own bill.

The second mistake is using the AC capacity in tons as watts. Tons describe cooling capacity, while the calculator needs the electrical power in watts, which you can find on the appliance label.

The third mistake is assuming the AC runs at full power all day. An inverter AC changes its compressor speed, so its average power can be lower than the rated power. Use a realistic average if you know it.

Another Worked Example

Example: An inverter AC using about 900W runs 10 hours a day for 30 days at 40 PKR per unit.

Units = (900 x 10 x 30) / 1000 = 270 units

Cost = 270 x 40 = 10,800 PKR

Example: A ceiling fan of 80W runs 12 hours a day for 30 days at 40 PKR per unit.

Units = (80 x 12 x 30) / 1000 = 28.8 units, so Cost = 28.8 x 40 = 1,152 PKR. These watt values are examples only.

Simple Ways to Reduce the Bill

Setting the AC thermostat a little higher shortens the time the compressor runs. Cleaning the filters regularly helps the AC cool without extra effort. Switching off appliances you are not using also lowers the units.

FAQ

1. Why is my actual bill higher than the estimate?

Slab rates, fuel price adjustment, taxes and other appliances are added to the bill. The estimate covers only the appliance you entered.

2. Does an inverter AC always use less electricity?

It often uses less on average because the compressor slows down once the room is cool, but real use depends on the model, the room and the temperature setting.

3. Which watt value should I enter?

Use the rated power on the appliance label, or the average power use if you know it.
