How to Calculate Age From Date of Birth

Last updated: 15 October 2026 | Reviewed by Habiba, founder of PakCalculators.com

Age calculation is needed for CNIC, job applications, and school admissions. Manual calculation can be confusing due to months and leap years.

Why Leap Year Matters

A common mistake is ignoring leap years. If someone was born on 29 Feb 2020, the calculator counts their new year of age from 1 March in years without 29 Feb. My calculator handles this automatically.

Common Mistakes

People often subtract years only, like 2026 - 2000 = 26, but forget months. If your birthday is in December and today is October, you are still 25. Another mistake is using 30 days for all months. February has 28 or 29 days. A third mistake is for government jobs, where age is calculated on a specific cut-off date, not today's date.

Worked Example 1

DOB: 15 Aug 2005

Today: 17 Oct 2026

Age: 21 years, 2 months, 2 days. This method helps for CSS or PPSC age limits.

Worked Example 2 - Job Eligibility

Cut-off date: 1 Jan 2026

DOB: 20 March 1998

Age on cut-off: 27 years, 9 months, 12 days. If the job limit is 28 years, this person is eligible.

When Not to Use

Do not use this for legal age proof. NADRA or birth certificate is the final record. This tool gives an estimate to help you plan.

Worked Example 3 - Leap Year Birthday

A person born on 29 Feb 2000 checks the age on 15 Oct 2026. The calculator shows 26 years, 7 months, 16 days.

In years without 29 Feb, the calculator counts the new year of age from 1 March.

Using a Cut-off Date

Set the "Age as on" date to the cut-off date written in the advertisement. Leave it as today only if you want your current age. Also check whether the advertisement uses the closing date or another date as the cut-off.

What the Calculator Shows

The calculator shows your age in years, months and days. It also shows total months, total days, total hours and the days left until your next birthday.

Check Your Documents First

Keep your CNIC or B-Form ready, because the date of birth written on these documents is what a department checks. If the date of birth differs between your documents, correct it through the proper NADRA process before you apply, so that your age does not create a problem later.

Also write down the cut-off date from the advertisement before you use the calculator, so that you do not calculate the age on the wrong date.
