How to Reduce Photo Size to 20KB, 50KB or 100KB for Online Forms

Last updated: 15 October 2026 | Reviewed by Habiba, founder of PakCalculators.com

Many online application forms accept photos only up to a fixed size in KB. Here is how to meet the limit without losing too much quality.

Steps

  1. Check the form for the required size, format and dimensions.
  2. Open my Image Resizer and choose your photo.
  3. Enter the target size, such as 20, 50 or 100 KB.
  4. Press the button and save the JPG.
  5. Upload the saved file to the form.

Tips for a Clear Result

Privacy

The photo is processed inside your browser on your own device and is not uploaded to my servers.

Common Photo Size Mistakes

The first mistake is saving the photo as PNG when the form asks for JPG. The second mistake is resizing the same photo again and again. Each save loses some detail, so always start from the original photo. The third mistake is checking only the size in KB and ignoring the pixel dimensions or file type that the form requires.

Steps for Good Results

Start with the original photo. Crop it to the shape the form asks for. If the form gives pixel dimensions, set them first. Then use the tool to bring the file under the KB limit, and check the preview before you upload it.

Why a Photo Can Stay Above the Target

Photos with many colours and fine detail compress less than photos with a plain background. If the file stays above the limit, try a smaller original photo or a plainer background, then run the tool again.

Check the Result Before You Upload

Open the downloaded file and look at the file size in your phone or computer file details. Keep a copy of the original so you can try again with a different crop if the form rejects the photo.

Using the Tool on a Phone

The tool works in the browser on a phone. Choose the photo from the gallery, select the target size, run the tool and save the result. The photo is processed on your own device, so it is not uploaded to a server.

Keep the Right File Type

Many forms accept only JPG or JPEG. The tool saves the result as a JPG. If a form asks for another type, check the instructions on the form before you upload the file.

JPG vs PNG: JPG is better for forms. Reducing the pixels reduces the file size. If the tool cannot reach the target, try a smaller photo or crop the photo first, then upload it again.
