Merit and Aggregate Formula for UET, NUST and Pakistani Universities
Last updated: 15 October 2026 | Reviewed by Habiba, founder of PakCalculators.com
For admission in engineering, medical, and universities in Pakistan, merit aggregate is calculated.
General Formula
Aggregate % = (Matric % x Matric Weight) + (Inter % x Inter Weight) + (Entry Test % x Test Weight)
Each university has different weightage:
- UET Lahore (ECAT): Common pattern 25% Matric + 45% Inter (Part 1) + 30% ECAT. But changes every year.
- NUST: Often 10% Matric + 15% Inter + 75% NET.
- FAST, COMSATS: Different formulas.
- Medical (MDCAT): 10% Matric + 40% Inter + 50% MDCAT (as per PMDC).
Pakistani Example
Example: A student applying for UET Lahore: Matric 1050/1100 (95.45%), Inter 480/520 (92.3% for Part 1), ECAT 280/400 (70%).
With UET formula 25/45/30: Aggregate = (95.45 x 0.25) + (92.3 x 0.45) + (70 x 0.30) = 23.86 + 41.53 + 21 = 86.39%.
How to Use My Merit Calculator
Enter Matric obtained/total, Inter obtained/total, Entry Test obtained/total. Select board if needed. You can change weightage as per your university prospectus 2026. Click Calculate Merit to see aggregate. This is for estimates only. Always check the official prospectus of your university for the final formula. For more info, see the HEC website.
Merit formulas can change every year. For example, UET generally uses 25% Matric, 45% FSC, 30% ECAT, while NUST and MDCAT have their own weightage. These figures are for example only to help you understand. Always check the latest prospectus of UET, NUST, or PMDC for the current year.
Common Merit Calculation Mistakes
The first mistake is rounding too early. Keep the full decimals while you work and round only the final aggregate.
The second mistake is entering the wrong marks. Use the marks that the admission notice asks for, for example Part 1 only or Part 1 and Part 2 together, and enter the correct total marks for each exam.
The third mistake is using last year's weightage. Weightage can change for every admission cycle, so copy it from the current notice or prospectus. Some admissions also add bonus marks for certain categories, which are not part of this simple formula.
Another Worked Example
Example: A student has Matric 1000/1100 (90.91%), Inter 950/1100 (86.36%) and an entry test score of 160/200 (80%).
With weightage 10% / 40% / 50%: Aggregate = (90.91 x 0.10) + (86.36 x 0.40) + (80 x 0.50) = 9.09 + 34.55 + 40.00 = 83.64%. These weightages are only an example.
Why Weightage Matters
A higher entry-test weight rewards test performance, while a higher Matric or Inter weight rewards board results. The same student can rank differently under two formulas, so always use the weightage published for the current admission cycle.
FAQ
1. Can I use my own weightage in the calculator?
Yes. You can change the three weightage fields to match the admission notice.
2. Should the weightages add up to 100?
Normally yes. The calculator shows the weightage total so you can check it.
3. Is the result my final merit position?
No. It is an estimate of your aggregate. The final merit list is published by the university.
